Education

Patricia Falcone received her bachelor of science in engineering degree in Aerospace and Mechanical Sciences from Princeton University, and her master’s and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University.

Expertise

As one of two deputies to the Laboratory Director of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, a Department of Energy national laboratory, Falcone is responsible for excellence and sustainment of the lab's scientific and engineering capabilities, oversees the lab’s discretionary investments for science and technology, and leads its collaborative research and partnerships with universities and with the private sector.

Falcone served from 2012–2015 as Associate Director, National Security and International Affairs, of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. She led OSTP activities in national security and international affairs, managing a division and engaging with other offices in the Executive Office of the President, especially the National Security Council and the Office of Management and Budget. She served as co-chair of the Committee on Homeland and National Security of the National Science and Technology Council. Previously, she served as Assistant Director, National Security, and Senior Policy Analyst for OSTP.

From 2003-2009, Falcone was Senior Manager of Systems Analysis and Engineering at Sandia National Laboratories, Livermore, CA.

Professional Activities

Falcone is chair of the Advisory Committee for the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Princeton University, and is a member of the Leadership Council of The Government – University – Industry Research Roundtable of the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine. She serves on the National Commission on Innovation and Competitiveness Frontiers and was Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Georgia Tech Research Corporation. She has served on external review committees for the DOE Office of Science: Diversity and Inclusion Strategies of the Office of Science National Laboratories, and for the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute.
