Eugene Flood, Jr., Joins RCSA Board of Directors
Eugene Flood, Jr., has joined the Board of Directors of Research Corporation for Science Advancement.
Flood is the managing partner of ACappella Partners, a family office that centers business, for-profit and not-for-profit board activity, community service and philanthropic efforts.
He also serves on the Janus Capital Group board of directors, and as chairman of an advisory board for the University of North Carolina Institute for Global Health and Infectious Diseases (IGHID).
An expert in investment management, global macroeconomics and how finance informs business strategy, Flood advises large financial firms on new sources of strategic thought and ways to build better business models. He also consults with institutional investment limited partners, as well as the c-suite executives running investment fund portfolio companies.
Flood was as an executive vice president and member of the executive team at TIAA-CREF (2011 - 2012), where he also served as a member of the Fortune 100 firm’s board of trustees (2004 - 2011.)
Prior to joining TIAA-CREF, Flood served as president and CEO of Smith Breeden Associates, a Durham, N.C., asset management firm (2000 - 2012.) He also worked at Morgan Stanley, New York (1987-1999), where his thinking and work helped to pioneer quantitative finance systems. He managed large businesses and supervised investment strategies during the stock market crash in 1987 and the financial crisis of 2007-2008.
Flood holds a Ph.D. in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and served as a faculty member at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business (1982-1987). He earned a bachelor of art’s degree in economics at Harvard University.
Flood has provided expert economic commentary to CNBC and CNN, and he has contributed to the Wall Street Journal and Fortune. He has appeared before a number of global financial associations and conferences as a keynote speaker.
During their free time, Flood and his wife, Paula, enjoy developing gospel music compositions and working with churches in their community, Chapel Hill, N.C.
