RCSA Welcomes Deven Estes, 2023 Fulbright-Cottrell Scholar

The German-American Fulbright Commission has awarded its 2023 Fulbright-Cottrell Award for excellence in research and teaching to Deven Estes, a chemistry professor at the University of Stuttgart.

Based on Research Corporation for Science Advancement’s Cottrell Scholar Award, the award recognizes junior faculty in chemistry, physics, and astronomy for integrating top-notch research with creative teaching. Awardees can attend Cottrell Scholar conferences and participate in Cottrell Scholar Collaborative projects.

“It’s always an honor to welcome a new Fulbright-Cottrell Scholar,” said RCSA Senior Program Director Silvia Ronco. “They bring international perspectives and impact to a community of more than 500 teacher-scholars from across the United States and Canada.”

The award, established in 2016, is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

Estes leads a group at the University of Stuttgart whose research bridges the gap between homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis by synthesizing well-defined active sites on the surfaces of metal oxides using surface organometallic chemistry and molecular heterogeneous catalysis.

Estes, originally from Chickasha, Oklahoma, holds a Ph.D. in chemistry from Columbia University. He received the award for his project, “Organometallic Reactions on Crystalline Surfaces: Understanding Hydrogen Spillover on Oxidation Catalysts.”
