RCSA Welcomes 2022 Fulbright-Cottrell Scholar Diego Andrada

The German-American Fulbright Commission has awarded its 2022 Fulbright-Cottrell Award for excellence in research and teaching to Diego Andrada, a chemist at Saarland University in Germany.

Based on Research Corporation for Science Advancement’s Cottrell Scholar Award, the award recognizes junior faculty in chemistry, physics, and astronomy for integrating pioneering research with innovative teaching. Awardees become eligible to participate in Cottrell Scholar meetings and conferences, and to take part in Cottrell Scholar Collaborative projects.

“Cottrell Scholars are a force for change,” said Senior Program Director Silvia Ronco. “I am delighted to welcome another outstanding teacher-scholar who can help extend this amazing community’s influence around the world.”

The award, established in 2016, is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

Andrada leads a research group in the general and inorganic chemistry department at Saarland University. His work in molecular inorganic and computational chemistry focuses on fundamental aspects of chemical bonding to predict and build guidelines for the synthesis of hitherto unknown compounds, and on the design of catalysts for efficient bond activation.

Andrada, who holds a Ph.D. in chemistry from the National University of Córdoba in Argentina, received the award for his project, “Theory Boosts Experiments: Boot Camp for Rational Design in Molecular Chemistry.”
