Vannevar Bush (1890-1974), an engineer and science administrator, is best known as a pioneer of the analog computer, an organizer of the Manhattan Project, and is often credited with developing the concept of the National Science Foundation. His idea of the Memex as a means of storing and accessing information was seminal in the structure of the World Wide Web.

Bush was a longtime friend and advisor of Research Corporation, and served on the Foundation’s board of directors from 1939 until 1946.
