The aim of Research Corporation’s unrestricted Venture Grants was to identify exceptionally talented younger scientists and make them grants, usually for three years, for use completely at their discretion in advancing their research within their own institutions’ policies. Although the program was highly effective, it was terminated in 1961 because other agencies were by then providing more extensive funding for the same purpose.
