From RC’s 1951-1952 internal annual report:
“‘Subversive’ activities
There is presently being held a Congressional investigation into the possible use of foundation grants to support subversive activities by grantees or their institutions. Research Corporation filed the requested information but has not been cited to appear. We have never questioned the political nor the “ideological” beliefs of any research worker submitting a request for a grant-in-aid. We would, however, not knowingly make a grant to anyone engaged in any activity subversive to our country nor its institutions. It seems difficult to believe that any fundamental project in the natural sciences, the final result of which is freely published in the scientific literature, could have any “subversive” connotation. This may be why Research Corporation has not been cited to appear before the Congressional Committee.”
