Nanoplasmonic Focusing of Light Fields to Amplify Non-Linear Optical Effects in Composite Photovoltaics

Mishchenko and Lupton want to filter some of the sun’s infrared photons through some of the molecules we have here on earth—preferably cheap molecules of Lupton’s own design— in the hope that those photons combine, forming a different color photon, infrared to blue. In physicist’s parlance, this infrared to blue jump is called a “nonlinear effect.”
